This article describes how customers can verify whether they have overpressured their iron.
Recently, a large pressure pumping end-user contacted Viatran with an issue that they had exceeded the pressure range rated for their iron when pressure pumping was performed.
The end-user enquired whether Viatran could analyze the data storage registers in the Model 511 hammer union pressure transmitter to verify if their concerns were true.
The Model 511 hammer union pressure transmitter can store up to 4 peak pressures and up to 140% of the pressure range. It can also perform this function when the peak pressure occurs relative to the time when the unit is powered on.
This unit features a resolution of 1 hour, which enables more than a single event to be captured. The table below shows the values derived from a 20,000 PSI range transmitter that runs on 1502 iron.
*Duplicated peak pressures more than 20,000 psi
Two peak data values appeared twice because the unit was possibly powered down when the event was encountered. When the unit was restarted, the 1-hour increment started over and the lowest value in memory was overwritten when the unit was rebooted.
The data reveals that the pressure, in fact, exceeded the value of 15,000 PSI twice when the unit was powered on. This offered the customer useful information to ensure reliability and safety.
If customers find this feature of the Model 511 hammer union pressure transmitter valuable and would like to know more about it, they can contact Viatran and the company will be happy to discuss the customer’s application and offer more valuable information.
